Columbus Park Adventure Part I- Happy Gillis Cafe & Hangout

Let's start the story this way...

Once upon a time there lived a husband and wife who shared a love for food.  They created their mark in the land of KC by opening Happy Gillis Cafe & Hangout. Wanting to offer more to the people of KC, they created a Crowd Fund Campaign to start a new business next door to Happy Gillis called Columbus Park Ramen Shop. By offering the best in breakfast & lunch with Happy Gillis, and the slurpy fun of ramen through the Columbus Park Ramen Shop, the people in the land of KC lived happily ever after.

Fun, right?! But seriously, if you have not visited either one of these locations, you are missing out on the wizardry of food that Josh and Abbey-Jo offer.  Reading about both locations in Feast Magazine and the Kansas City Star, I knew my stop was inevitable to pick up some grub.  I mean, they were on the Feast Magazine's "Kansas City's Best New Restaurants of 2015", that I swore I would try, it was just a matter of when.

Happy Gillis Cafe & Hangout

So last Saturday me and my guy decided to hit-up Happy Gillis for breakfast/lunch.  Located on the corner of Gillis Street in the Columbus Park District, the restaurant sits in the "Little Italy" neighborhood.  Come in, place your order at the counter, and pull up a chair at your own table or share with others. The restaurant is community seating.  The look of the restaurant is very shabby chic with mixed dining sets and a collage of patterned dining plates on the wall.

When I placed my order, I had to go for the classic Biscuits & Gravy with broadway butcher sausage. I also paired the Biscuits & Gravy with eggs over easy. And what is a late breakfast without a mimosa?  The half order of Biscuits & Gravy with the eggs was portioned just right.

My guy went for the Breakfast Sandwich. Of course I had to try a bite of his.  The toast with egg and bacon was the perfect combination.  All-in-all everything was delicious.

Having filled our bellies, we traveled back home to watch the Chiefs game.

Well, you know how that went.... On the brighter-side, once the game was over, we headed back towards the Columbus Park District to eat at another Josh and Abbey-Jo creation, Columbus Park Ramen Shop....

Be sure to check out Part II of our tasty adventure!!

Much Love---

Hey KC! It's Been Too Long.

Okay, okay. I mean. I've slacked. Hardcore.  But hey! Sometimes life happens. I'm sorry.

Since the last time I wrote a lot has changed for me. Surgery (blah), kid in competitive basketball (my life as a basketball mom), new job, college graduate (YAY!), and started grad school (because I'm crazy). Lucky for me, I'm able to enjoy all my crazy times with my incredible boyfriend, silly daughter, and wonderful family.

All while life happened, a friend asked me to put together a website for his cause, FrancosCharityTravels.org.  Before this website, I had never designed content for a web page.  After completing his website, I had high hopes of getting mine off the ground. Regrettably, there was SOO much content that I wanted to include, that to keep up would be too much for one person.  Therefore, my 2016 resolution is to FINALLY put a page together that I can easily mange. But here's the thing, I want your suggestions as to what content you would like to see. For me, I want to see events, food, basic life things everyone might be interested in.  And of course, make it all KC!

I'm back in the game this year. Look for my next post on some DELICIOUS Kansas City eats that me and my guy hit up last weekend.  If you haven't been to Happy Gillis Cafe & Hangout for breakfast or their attached Columbus Park Ramen, you are truly missing out on a neighborhood gem.  Both locations were so highly recommended, we had to hit up both in one day!

Under Construction: Working on the Website!

I am very excited to soon offer not only the blog, but a website!  While everything is under construction I will be posting mainly on my Facebook page.  This process should run me about two weeks.  In the meantime, I want your opinion!  What things do you like to see about Kansas City? What events matter to you?  Please submit by commenting here on the blog or emailing me at KCGlitzandGlamour@yahoo.com.  I want to make the site easy to use so your opinion counts!

In addition, I am also looking to help small businesses create websites and partnership with me through KCGlitzandGlamour.  If you are ready to make the jump into web marketing and social media, let me help you.  My site will also feature these services to help the small business owner get the word out about their business or service in the greater Kansas City area.
