Let's start the story this way...
Once upon a time there lived a husband and wife who shared a love for food. They created their mark in the land of KC by opening Happy Gillis Cafe & Hangout. Wanting to offer more to the people of KC, they created a Crowd Fund Campaign to start a new business next door to Happy Gillis called Columbus Park Ramen Shop. By offering the best in breakfast & lunch with Happy Gillis, and the slurpy fun of ramen through the Columbus Park Ramen Shop, the people in the land of KC lived happily ever after.
Fun, right?! But seriously, if you have not visited either one of these locations, you are missing out on the wizardry of food that Josh and Abbey-Jo offer. Reading about both locations in Feast Magazine and the Kansas City Star, I knew my stop was inevitable to pick up some grub. I mean, they were on the Feast Magazine's "Kansas City's Best New Restaurants of 2015", that I swore I would try, it was just a matter of when.
Happy Gillis Cafe & Hangout
So last Saturday me and my guy decided to hit-up Happy Gillis for breakfast/lunch. Located on the corner of Gillis Street in the Columbus Park District, the restaurant sits in the "Little Italy" neighborhood. Come in, place your order at the counter, and pull up a chair at your own table or share with others. The restaurant is community seating. The look of the restaurant is very shabby chic with mixed dining sets and a collage of patterned dining plates on the wall.
When I placed my order, I had to go for the classic Biscuits & Gravy with broadway butcher sausage. I also paired the Biscuits & Gravy with eggs over easy. And what is a late breakfast without a mimosa? The half order of Biscuits & Gravy with the eggs was portioned just right.
My guy went for the Breakfast Sandwich. Of course I had to try a bite of his. The toast with egg and bacon was the perfect combination. All-in-all everything was delicious.

Having filled our bellies, we traveled back home to watch the Chiefs game.
Well, you know how that went.... On the brighter-side, once the game was over, we headed back towards the Columbus Park District to eat at another Josh and Abbey-Jo creation, Columbus Park Ramen Shop....
Be sure to check out Part II of our tasty adventure!!
Much Love---
